Are you ready for Local Elections

There are many ways to become involved in the working of your local Parish Council.  If you are unsure what this means the points below provide the details:

  • You do not have to belong to a political party to be a Councillor.
  • You do not have to be retired but you MUST be over 18 years of age.
  • The Parish Council receives its funding to assist in the operation from the local council tax which is called a PRECEPT. Details of how the Precept is set out is included on the Parish Council website at nortoncanesparishcouncil.co.uk
  • If being a Councillor is not for you but you still have an interest of what happens in the village, there are other areas that you can become involved in as a volunteer for example, the Neighbourhood Plan, Community Speedwatch, Litterpicking, local events.
  • There is always the opportunity to attend Parish Council meetings each month to put forward any ideas you may have regarding the village.

Your involvement is entirely up to you and you can give as much or as little time as you wish.  However if you become a Councillor there are requirements of that role regarding attendance at meetings of Council and Committees that have to be attended.

The Elections take place on the 2nd May.  If you are interested in becoming a Councillor there is a deadline for your application to be submitted which is the 3rd April 2019.

The Parish Council is run for the benefit of the community.
