What do you think about the recreational facilities, what would you like to see?

Icons healthy living

There is a need to improve indoor and outdoor sport and recreation facilities, health services and access to the countryside.

Cannock Chase District Council has received some funding and more is required to come from housing developers to be be used for sports and recreation.

There is already one Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) off Brownhills Road (see pictures below), and improvements to the Cema are underway, but we think more facilities are needed.

We have identified all the open spaces here within the village and want to protect these with a new policy.

We want to:

  • Identify a site for an indoor sports and leisure facility. Our current thinking is that the Community Centre would be the most appropriate location.
  • Identify priorities for improvements to outdoor sports pitches, including additional MUGAs.
  • Work with partners to achieve a link through Norton Canes with National Cycle Route 5. This will involve a new option on the leg which runs from Walsall To Burntwood to extend it to the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on to Stafford to connect with the existing route.

  • Identify priorities for improvements to informal open spaces and play areas, including potential to create a formal park and provide additional allotments.
  • Ensure that patient services at the Health Centre are improved to meet the needs of a growing community.
  • Protect all open spaces from development with a new policy.

We are keen to get the opinion of our younger people living in Norton Canes and would encourage them to take part in our Youth Survey and hear their views on a few things like:

  • How easy it is to get around the village?
  • What sports and recreation facilities there are?
  • What our parks, paths and cycle routes are like?
  • How safe is the village?

Answering these few questions will help us shape our Neighbourhood Plan and will ensure we meet the needs of young people who live in, go to school in, or visit Norton Canes in the future.
